FIELD TRIP NEWS
Mrs. Shipley’s 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students were given the opportunity to participate in an amazing field trip to Mesa Community College’s planetarium and chemistry lab. The young scientists were treated to spectacular show in the sky where they were able to identify constellations, tour planets, and see the mysteries of the Milky Way. After the planetarium, our students worked with current chemistry students of the college to perform hands on experiments. In full lab garb our students created chemical reactions and ignited scientific curiosity. Lunch time was a true college experience, eating in the common area with the collegiates. Up next were more hands on activities where the future scientists learned about polymers making slime and bouncy balls. As a grand finale Dr. Weirdo performed show stopping experiments including making ogre tooth paste and a class favorite - an ice cream exploding volcano. Thank you to Alicia Leighty’s dad and Hayley Benson’s mom, both professors at MCC, for this over the top experience.
