Dear Parents, Happy April! As we look ahead to a busy spring, we’d like to share some important information with you. We keep uppermost in our minds the trust you have placed in us, and we take time in each New Year to look at the allocation of our time and resources. We do this to make sure that our time and resources reflect the founding beliefs and goals of New Vistas. People are our most important resource and this is reflected in the numbers of staff working directly to support the achievement of each and every student. The ratio of adult staff to students is 1:4. Usually, when we think about staff, of course, we think first about our wonderful classroom teachers. What key people they are in the lives of our children. We value their commitment to the development of academic excellence for each and every student in their classrooms. At New Vistas, we are fortunate to have many additional resources as well. For instance, beside our classroom teachers, we have: specials teachers, reading teachers, foreign language, computer, and science teachers, classroom and specials’ aides, before and after care staff, and lunch supervisors. Our office staff and directors also work closely with students, parents, and families. To top it off, we have many, many parents who share their time and talents directly and indirectly throughout the year to support us. We work hard to make sure that our decisions regarding the allocation of our resources are valid and are made with an awareness of the trust you have placed in us. We are proud that New Vistas continues to attract so many dedicated and talented students and families. In 2003, The Arizona Republic reported findings of a study conducted by The International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement. The study compared reading performance of students in the fourth grades (or equivalent) of 35 countries internationally. While the United States ranked 9th, American students in private schools scored significantly higher. We want you to know that we, at New Vistas, continue each year to rededicate ourselves to our core values and make sure that our expenditures reflect our belief in the power of teachers, students, and parents working together.
